Our Nautical Nursery Tour
As we slowly renovate our home, Luke's nursery - the most recent project we tackled - has quickly become my favourite room in the house.
When we found out we were having a boy, I scoured Pinterest for nursery decor inspiration, settling on grey, navy, and white as base colours from which to work. We chose Benjamin Moore's Stormy Monday for the walls, as it's a classic, medium shade that we anticipate will transition well as Luke grows up. It's also on the same colour palette, just one shade darker, than the Cement Grey we chose for our living room walls a few months earlier. Since you enter the nursery from the living room, it segues nicely.
From there, I decided on a nautical theme after coming across Bed Beth and Beyond's Nautica Kids Mix 'n Match collection. Not only did it fit perfectly with our chosen colour scheme, but it has so many adorable pieces. I chose a few base pieces to start with (including this, this, and this as wall decor and this extra sheet), and plan to add a few more items (such as this mobile) as Luke grows and starts to use this room more.
I also love that the theme and colour scheme is versatile enough to incorporate additional decor items. For example, the striped navy and white curtains are the perfect focal point.
To eliminate the need for a change table and save space, we opted for a change pad on top of the dresser, as well as an organizational basket to keep essentials like diapers, wipes, and lotion handy.
While most of the room adheres to the nautical theme and sticks to grey, navy, and white, we added some personal touches on the floating shelves. Adam, my husband and Luke's daddy, is a big fan of English football, especially Manchester United, so we displayed soccer balls and sports memorabilia at his request.
Finally, we added a simple white bookshelf and several blue and white bins for the storage of toys and books.
